Evidence guide
The evidence required depends on the qualification and assessment requirements. This page explains the common categories assessors consider, with real examples by industry.
Common evidence categories
No single document proves competency on its own — assessors look at the overall picture your evidence paints.
Payslips, employment contracts, position descriptions and rosters showing what you did and for how long.
Letters or statements from employers, clients, supervisors or builders describing the work you performed.
Time-stamped images of work in progress and completed, including before/after shots where relevant.
Quotes, invoices, contracts or job sheets if you worked as a subcontractor or ran your own business.
Any short courses, white cards, manufacturer training or partial qualifications you already hold.
Overseas trade certificates, employment records or registration, considered alongside your Australian evidence.
By industry
Evidence looks different depending on your industry. Here are a few examples — see your qualification page for the full picture.

No. The evidence required depends on the specific qualification and what an assessor needs to see to confirm competency — not every candidate needs every item on this page. An FMC adviser can help you identify what's realistic to gather for your situation.
This is a normal part of a genuine assessment, not a failure. An assessor may ask for additional evidence, or hold a competency conversation or practical observation to clarify any gaps before making a decision.
An assessor considers the overall evidence available rather than relying on one document type. Photos, client or employer references, invoices and a competency conversation can still form a strong evidence portfolio.
Sometimes — if your work history genuinely covers units relevant to more than one qualification. An adviser can help map your evidence against the specific qualification you're pursuing.
